Precautionary landings of helicopters VT-PHY on due bad weather.

On 03 May 2018, at 1055 hours helicopter VT-PHY carried out a precautionary landing at Ravulapalem (16 45.549 N, 082 50.030 E), On a radial of 178 at a distance of 21 Nautical Miles from Rajahmundry (RJM 178/21 NM) on its return to Rajahmundry Airfield (VORY) from a ONGC offshore crew Change sortie. As per the onboard weather radar all around Rajahmundry Airfield, Yanam Reliance base and Surasini Yanam Helibase was covered with bad weather. The crew were negotiating bad weather en-route took timely action to land immediately at suitable nearest place to avoid bad weather conditions. The pilots had filed Visual Flight Rules flight plan for a Crew Change sortie to an Offshore floater platform named Aban Abraham, located on Rajahmundry VOR (RJM) On. A radial of 147 – at a distance of 56 NM at on continued the flight under Visual Flight Rules. Before and after executing the precautionary landing Rajahmundry ATC, ONGC Helibase at Kakinada and Cairn Energy Helibase at Surasini Yanam were communicated on Aero VHF and Land Line respectively.

As Major Equipment Failed, How Air India Pilots Landed With 370 On Board

Aviation Safety Management Society Of India (ASMSI) commends Captain Rustom Palia, commanding an Air India Boeing 777-300,  AI-101 on Sept 11 2018,  for his out of the box thinking & excellent problem solving skills under adverse conditions. He saved 370 occupants of flight  AI-101 by landing the aircraft manually under adverse weather conditions and multiple system failures. Well Done !

A British Airways aircraft flying from Hyderabad to London’s Heathrow Airport aborted a landing attempt seconds after it touched down on the runway. Top Airlines on the basis of On Time Performance (OTP) 2018 Category Mega Carriers :OAG Indigo Ranked 6th Worldwide

Indigo is ranked 6th under category Among the world’s largest airlines, the LATAM Airlines Group has achieved the highest OTP with 85.60% of flights reported as on-time. The airline takes first place, up from its ranking of 8th place in the previous Punctuality League. US LCC Southwest has moved ahead of its mainline US rivals United Airlines and American Airlines with OTP of 78.20%. Each of the three major Chinese carriers has seen a positive improvement in OTP after a collective focus by the Chinese Civil Aviation Authority (CAAC) on improving OTP: China Southern has moved from 64.19% to 71.52%; China Eastern has moved from 61.80% to 70.62%; and, Air China has improved from 60.14% to 68.84%. In contrast, both SAS and Lufthansa have seen a drop in OTP and corresponding falls in their ranking

Top Airlines on the basis of On Time Performance (OTP) 2018 Category LLC :OAG Indigo Ranked 7th & Air Asia Ranked 12th Worldwide

Azul tops the list of Top 20 LCCs with OTP of 85.21%, up from its ranking of fifth place last year. Jetstar Asia retains second place with OTP of 84.13%. Transavia and Norwegian are the only European LCCs in the Top 20 as Vueling, easyJet and Eurowings all drop to positions outside the Top 20. As a consequence Solaseed, Mango, Flynas and Air Busan all enter the Top 20 LCCs having made the qualifying criteria this year. Solaseed has achieved an impressive OTP with 82.90% of flights arriving on time.

Indigo Ranked at 7th place with OTP of 81.70% & Air Asia India ranked 12th with OTP of 79.03% in the list of Top 20 LCCs.

Top Airports on the basis of On Time Performance (OTP) 2018 Category Small :OAG Bhubaneswar Airport ranked 20th Worldwide

Small Airports departing 2.5-5 Million seats per annum. Among the Top 20 Small Airports 84.0% of arriving and departing flights were operated within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival and departure times in 2018. The data coverage for these airports was 92.9%.

Congratulations to Minsk Airport, a new entrant in the Punctuality League, for achieving the top spot among small airports with an impressive OTP of 92.35%. Brazil’s small airports have performed particularly well with Curitiba ranked 4th (up from 14th last year), Fortaleza ranked 8th (up from 24th) and Salvador ranked 13th (up from 27th). Also Bhubaneswar to be ranked 20th with a OTP of 81.64%.
