Pilgrimage Flying is a very lucrative business and the profitability of number of Operators largely depends on the contracts to operate in the location of pilgrimage centres. The flying during the season is very hectic, challenging and demands high standards of professionalism, maturity and safety consciousness. There are many grey areas related to the conduct of operations during pilgrimage flying.
During the past years, DGCA has taken many proactive steps and has published number of CAR’s and Circulars which are source of knowledge and guide the Pilots and Operators to take various steps to ensure safety of aviation operations during adverse weather operations. All the Pilots and Operators should go through the following DGCA CAR’s and Circulars, make a summary of important points, disseminate and prepare themselves for safe and efficient conduct of aviation operations during adverse weather phases:-
Flying during elections is a very challenging task and as such, all the professionals associated with the election Flying need to exercise extreme caution. Number of Aircraft and Helicopters will be crisscrossing to ferry the political parties all over election states. Lack of co-ordination among the operators, pilots, aircraft and helicopters, inadequate Air Traffic Control, hurriedly prepared makeshift dusty helipads, poor crowd control, inadequate security, commercial, political parties and VIP pressures, adverse Weather conditions, heavy quantum of flying, large number of landings, pilot and Crew members fatigue, inadequate rest and recreation facilities and rushed up maintenance are some of the serious hazards during election flying.
